I have built a diamond, so i understand the concept basically, but not too sure about the clamshell. Is it like what Frankie has?
Thanks for the info in advance

clamshell is like Randy's van, or Steve Micks

I think Micks is built more as a bandpass then a clam.
I also think that a vertical clamshell tends to be louder then a horizontal one.
To me it seems a clamshell is for when you dont have enough room for a wall and a diamond is used when you dont have enough room for a clamshell.

If im doing a cut thru, and i have the subs 2 per side kinda like a clamshell and ported (where the subs are mounted to the box at an angle, those piece do not touch the back) in a box KINDA like Meade did to that EXT caddy, is that going to be my best bet? I do not have room for a diamond and im wondering if a single row, 2 deep, 15" subs, would be best done like this. I will try and draw a pic to help if im unclear...

As far as clamshells go, is a ported or sealed better? Are there differeces between the outputs and things like that?
I guess I am just REALLY, REALLY curious about the different designs and the potential of them and everything.

ported should be louder, but you may find it hard to get it to peak at a high frequency if that's the goal

Of corse a ported design would be louder.I havent really seen to many ported clamshells, the only one that comes to mind right now is Neills blazer.Charger on here also has a ported clamshell,im not sure if he has put up any numbers yet tho.
When i had the 24 15's in my truck it was ported but it was a and design had it tuned towards the 18 hz range.
Looks like your design should work,i was thinking of redoing my van and porting it somehow.

Ported and LOW tuning are the only ways I roll...just didn't know if sealed had any advantage.
I won't ever tune over like ~32 hz, and i would love to make the truck tuned much lower. Any advice on a good range to shoot for in the tuning aspect? It's for bass race and daily, so I want it to slam and kill the lows.

Now, as far as the subs that i can use in the design I drew, what would sound good, get nasty / loud (a good thing), and put up to the DAILY abuse it will have?
I am kinda set on 15's, would do 18's but not really enough room, and 12's are kinda small for my liking. T3? AA? Fi? Cactus Sounds?
Looking for ideas!!!
edit: I'd be afraid something like a Kicker L7 wouldn't like the daily abuse and use, and just don't want to have to worry about crawling around to change out subs alot.

You need to build a clamshell, but you need to cover it in shagg carpet so you can call it the "hairy clam". BTW us old-schoolers used to call it a power v.

If you got the really long pile stuff it would blow in the wind quite nicely as well. I'd be a little bit scared to roll with Hairy Clam decals though. What colour would you think?

That design works very well. I had to tear my box apart because I made the ports on the outer chamber to short. Make the middle chamber as big as you can.

Here's my ported Clamshell. Six 15" DD Audio woofers and it's tuned to 35Hz. It has an in car peak of around 46Hz but will play down low comfortably. The clamshell is a great design because they are stronger than a conventional wall do to the arrangement of the baffle. I find they handle lower frequencies well.
The clamshell I built before this was to similar specs but just for four Soundstream SPLX152. We posted 153.5dB @ 34Hz on the lab from just one Rockford T40001. It played low low, over 150dB @ 25Hz!

I have a sideways sealed clam with 24 15s. We put a port on the front of it, and now its a 4th order bandpass. 50cubes sealed, 35 ported, tuned to 47hz. Plays everything and does it really well. Rap, rock, C&S music, you name and it will play it.
Its just a daily setup, so Im all about being able to play every note. It could have a big peak around 40hz and meter higher, but its just a daily driven van that gets me to class so Im happy for now.
