I'm rebuilding my street max van this winter... trying to decide the most efficent enclosure to build in it. I've got a general idea for 4th orders, but have no clue on 6th... how hard is a 6th order to build?

6th order requires you to get each port and chamber exact to have the results that you would be looking for. I think that if you're gonna use the van just to burp then a 4th order would probably be best since it gets extremely loud at a very peaky frequency. If you can talk to Team NEO Eric he is awesome with explaining bandpass systems. I'm sure that Steve Mick or Eric Alexender could also explain bandpasses to you since they run them in their vans. There are a couple other guys here on the forum that seem to be pretty knowledgeble about them too. I like you van how it is now Travis, you don't need it any louder Also try asking Greg Zoller, he has a bandpass in his blazer and is in the 170 range with a single 18.

I know basic theory on bandpass operation, but i'm still learning through build and test, build, test, build, test, ect, ect, ect. Eric alexander is,IMO, one of the bandpass greats.

You're being modest Eric. You are the most knowledgable person I have talked to about bandpass enclosures. They aren't all that common and that's why I think that most people don't know a whole lot about them. My first system was a bandpass enclosure. It actually sounded pretty damn good for some crap MTX woofers.
Travis, are you trying to play music out of the van? Or are you just keeping it to burp? I'd like to see you do 4 18's in it for Bassrace in 149.9 or 159.9

series tuned 6th order has the rear ported chamber firing into the front ported chamber rather than 2 different ported chambers firing into the cabin

I would pm eric alexander.
But from what I've seen/read, usually the enclosure the subs are in is a bit smaller than a normal ported box, tuned low, then the front chamber is much much larger than normal and tuned high.
It probably depends on if you want it musical or strictly for burps.

Eric's van had a huge front chamber for a 6th order. I don't know of any ratios except just test and test. Do NOT tune the outer chamber and the inner chamber to the same frequency. You'll get cancellation out the ass, especially if it's going to be a parallel tuned BP. I think a series tuned 6th order (ported box inside a ported box)would be easier to design and test with.

A properly sized 6th order for 2 12's is most likely going to be far too large to fit in a trunk car.
