I got my new subs the other day and I had to share some pics of them. These things are MASSIVE! I wasn't expecting to get them so quick either. I ordered them on a Tuesday and I got them on Thursday. That's really fast shipping! Anyway I got the dual 1 ohm coils so that I could run a 1 ohm load on my GP Pro 3000D. The shipping weight on each of these is 60 pounds, and they were pretty damn heavy trying to put them into the box alone. Here is a list of the specs from the Sundown site:
Dual 2-ohm or Dual 1-ohm Voice Coils Available
3" Diameter 8-layer flat-wound Aluminum Wire Voice Coil
High Temperature Aluminum Voice Coil Former
1500-Watts RMS Power Handling
Over 2 inches peak to peak excursion
Wide, triple-layer foam surrounds for high excursion
Extremely strong paper cones w/ stiffening disc
Thick poly dust caps
Cast Aluminum 12-spoke basket with cooling vents
Triple Stacked 1" x 9" magnet slugs for high motor strength
MSRP - $549 USD
T/S D1 **:

RMS: 1500

Needless to say I love them so far. They are a ton louder than the last woofers I had in my car and they seem to be able to take some serious abuse too. I really like the fact that the tinsel leads are sewn down in spots to keep the tinsel from slapping the cone and also keep it secure. Here are some of the pics I took of the subs.

Here are a few of them in the box in my ZX3. I'll have the car metered this weekend at the Loud N Clear show here in Ohio. I wish I had a Tl so I could get the car tuned before I go. I can definately tell the peak went up after switching to these subs. I want to say thanks again to Jacob for the awesome deal and super fast shipping! I can't wait to get these subs in the lanes.

Wow, Manny that's a pretty strong score. I can only hope to do in the upper 140's with mine. It's definately loud enough to skip the cd player at 3/4 volume in the car. I'm not sure what the peak changed to. It was 45hz with the DC level 4's that I had, but it is way higher with the Nightshades. There is even a huge difference between 45&46 hz. And it continues to get louder along with the car resonating more the closer it gets to 50 hz and even up to 53 hz. So I'm guessing that my note has changed to something in between 48-53 hz. That's awesome though because the subs still hit the lows in my car too. I can't wait until I get the changer I ordered so I can actually listen to it with some volume.

After all displacement each sub has 1.9cuft and they share 61.75sqin of port. My tuning frequency is at 36 hz, but it happens to peak a lot higher than that. I won't know the actual peak until Sunday. Also the box is inch mdf all the way around with 2X4's bracing top to bottom and front to back. It also has resin all over the inside sealing the box and has 45's in the corners made from pools of resin. The box is a daily/bassrace box, but I think that is has potential to get pretty loud with some more power. I plan on building a new box after I get my move over with.

I'm anxious to see how they do on the meter! I have several customers doing ~150 dB on music with a pair of 15s and your power level!

Thanks [Smile]

I'll be offering more custom options and whatnot next year. Right now custom options are available on re-cones (longer coil, harder spiders) -- but I'll be working on offering customization from the beginning.

I've been beating these down constantly while I'm driving in the car and they still haven't loosened up at all yet. They still feel like they are fresh out of the box. It's going to take me a little time and maybe another GP3000D to get these subs broken in. Now that I realize that my car peaks a lot higher than the box is tuned I'm sure I'll gain spl when I build a box with a higher tuning frequency than 36 hz. It happens to sound awesome the way that it is and I may not change a thing if I can get it up over 148 db. I'm not a meter and I'd love to say it's there now, but we'll just have to wait and see. I still plan on running in the 129.9 class since I have the issue of the deck skipping. I may jump up to the 139.9 class after I get a changer in there.

Anything in particular you want to see ? I'm @ home right now but I could post a few pics on Monday.

"Stock" coil is a relatively short 8-layer aluminum coil (USA made).

"Stock" suspension is three hard spiders.

I have done some custom re-cones with longer coils and as many as five spiders.

 -
and standing on the former I go about 130 lbs and it holds me just fine
 -
a wile back I had another cone that to destroy it I had to literaly stomp on it which crushed the former that was allready compromised eventualy after litteraly beating the hell out of it I had cracked the dustcap and the plastic stiffening disc but I was out to destroy it just to see how strong it was
