yes they can handle over 5000 watts for burps , if you move up to the APX they will do double the power and i also wanted to say they sound loud daily driving

thanks, they are for my wife, she is running some old sound stream spl 12's on a memphis 1000d doing a 143.Im hopeing if i give each one a 1000 watts she can pull a 147 or so

wow stany the back of the cone looked better than the front. was that carbon fiber for reinforcement?

carbon-fiber is not the best reinforcement for a speaker. It has great tear-strength, but it's torsional and buckling strength is not that great. that's why most subs have a kevlar/glass/liquified rock composite, often with a foam-core sandwich to increase internal loss and lower resonance. otherwise, Cf is lightweight for good midbass response and SQ if used with a very even inductance curve, and moderate cone sizes compared to driver diameter, to reduce IMD

It's not the IMD you have to worry about, it's the ringing and ragged upper response of the CF due to an extremely high stiffness/mass ratio. CF and Kevlar in the hands of the wrong person will be as bad or worse than metals like magnesium and aluminum in terms of cone break up and resonance.

i meant to type cone diameter compared to dedicated frequency, but you're right winslow.

Yeah, big old light extrememly stiff cones with low internal damping can be a mother to get right.

shame you can't get extremely thin dynamat for the cone. maybe a nice layer of liquid latex sprayed on.

Sorry but due to my less than perfect English what is exactly "torsional and buckling strength" or "IMD"???
