I have a '99 sonoma with 2 12L7's in a prefab box that came with them. I think I could get more out of these with a new box. Right now they are about 2.8 cu ft per chamber. I was thinking no divider. Also what do you think between round and slot ports? Any suggestions would be nice. Also the 6x9's will not be there so I would have room to go wider, only have about 16" front to back though.
Here is a pic of what I have now...

Ask D-Bass about the L7's, he has had some experience with them. I think that he is doing a build for two 10's in his car right now. I had a single 12 at one point in time in my car in the trunk doing 139.8 in 4cuft slot ported. I only had 700 watts of Alpine power going to the sub. The box for the one was 4cuft after displacement with 60sqin of port tuned to 44hz, which was like 16 or 18 inches deep I'm not sure which it was.

I assume you're looking for something that will sound decent musically. Those trucks usually go into the 50+Hz range pretty well do to cabin volume, but mid40's seems tobe a good burping point. Try about 5.7cf NET. For port, I would suggest Three 6" Aeroports, at a full length 17-20" i think they come. Build the box to the maxximum dimensions you can, vertically and from front-back, but keeping the box on the passenger side as much as you can. Then do all three aeroports externally coming out behind the driver's seat. and AllNight, I'm using the 2002 12" in my car.

Thanks for the picture, So that box is not sealed off into two chambers right? Looks like a small section in there for support. What does the purple/pink represent?

Those dimensions you listed give you an 8cf box. I'd say do your walls out of 1/2" and 3/4" glued together. So, i'd shorten the width to 34.5"external. Do the 1/2" on the outside --on the baffle only--. Then recess the subs through the 1/2", but not into the 3/4". Forget about the yellow brace I had between the subs. Just do a 3/8" threaded rod from top to bottom. That and the 1.25" baffle should be plenty strong. Heck, another rod from front to back too. The purple/pink curves were showing you could either do roundovers in the corners, or just pour some resin in with the box sitting at an angle.
Does your truck have that weird step in the back? or weird shapes that will get in your way from doing a rectangle? If so, you'll have to adjust for that. You will want the external port mouths to be at least 5" from the driverside bpillar/sidepanel. If that isn't possible, then maybe push a little more of the port into the box until it is at least 5-6" That should come out to quite a bangin' box.
What amp are you running them on? and what impedance coils? Your sig says brutus, i'm hoping thats a 1500-2600 version.

Those demensions I gave were external with a 1.5" baffle and 3/4" sides. The truck does have a stepped floor in the back, but I was thinking of a false floor. I just have boards underneath the box I have in there now to help hold it up. I guess on the ports I meant in the box. I know they are supposded to be their own diameter away from any walls, but with 3x 6" I guess they will have to be staggered/stacked. The amp is the 1606d with 4ohm coils down to 1 ohm at the amp.

Have fun with it. post plenty of pics though. I'd like to see it come together and see some results.

I will get some pictures when I get things going. I have about a week and a half left of school until summer. I guess I just have to ask what you think on where to center the ports in the box itself?

Hey D-Bass, did you just suggest the external ports to save room inside the box? Bass Box Pro figured they displaced .8 cf. Just wondering as the other topic in here says there really isn't any difference.

the ports will be external so you dont have to calculate displacement of them...

I know, I was saying if they were internal it would be .8xx, but I was just wondering if he just suggested external so they didn't take up any box room.

It's not going to make a big difference either way. As long as you get the internal volume close to my recommendation, you can put the ports inside or outside. Just make sure to compensate for it. You want an internal volume of 5.7cf. If you put the ports outside, then you're done. If you put the ports inside, then you need a total internal of 6.55cf. If the ports are half in, half out, 6.16ish.

Alright, I think I have a pretty good idea of what I'm going to do. I'll get some stuff ordered and start working on it in about two weeks. I'll put some pictures up as I go.
Is 3x6" ports too much? Its 480 ci (.277 cf) of port area. This is the only thing I'm not sure of. Tuning is fine @ 42hz

85square inches of port should do fine. I have about that on my box now with 2 L712's. tune in the low 40's, peaking around 48.

I did a little drawing. Don't think the 3 6" aeros are going to fit on the same side. Here are just two against both edges. Box is 36 long x 24 tall x 15 deep.

you can always trim the edges of the flare to fit

How do you think they would take another bxi1606D? @ 2 ohm it would be about 1100rms. I like to have more power than I need because right now I feel like I'm maxing the amp out. Not sure how much these can take on a daily basis. Obviously I would have the gains turned down. What do you think?

I have mine on two BX2005d's. strapped on a maxxlink at 4ohm...basically 2ohms per amp. Does great, i just don't crank it for long periods of time at full power. Once I get my BIG battery and new alternator...i'll be burping at 1(0.5per amp)

Do you think I would be better off running each sub off of each amp or strapping them w/ a maxxlink? I have 4 ohm subs . Only thing I can think of would be the gain control if I ran them independently.
