you should get a circle jig. WAY more awesome, and only 20-30bucks. Jasper makes my favorites. The 200 model is the best for subwoofers. The 400 is great for mids/highs.

The port idea is good. I have done this before myself with slot ported boxes. Try making a venturi style slot port, seemed to always be loudest for me.

I would add some more screws holding the port in.
As for the venturi style slot port, it is simply a flared slot port.
