Ok,

I've searched around this forum and others with regard to where to set your subsonic filter in comparison to box tuning frequency.

I've seen everything from 20 Hz below your box tuning to right at the same frequency the box is tuned to or slightly above.

Does anyone have a knowledgable answer to this question?

I would assume that you would want the filter at the very least 5Hz below the box's tuning freq. due to the facts that:

A - The box generally tunes 3-5 Hz lower in car due to the cabin adding resistance...

B - The box doesn't lose all it's dampening ability immediately below the port's tuning frequency.... it takes a good bit before the cone is completely unsupported...

That said - Where do you guys run your subsonic filters for SPL and Daily use...

I'm sure some of this is dependent on the steepness of the rolloff of the filter, But does anyone have a good formula for at least getting a baseline?

As Usual - Thanks guys,

Hans

Find out what your tuning frequency is is set the subsonic to about 3-5 hz below that.

If you do not know your tuned frequency, get some test tones burned, and choose a frequency that you want to be sure of that the sub can play without moving it too much, the lowest frequency but within reason. If you think it's tuned at lets say 35hz, set the subsonic filter at about 40hz, play a 30hz tone and slowly turn the sub filter down until you think the sub is moving too much.
IF it never moves too much then play a lower tone and do the same thing.

That's one way to do it.
