Hey Mike.
The TFL project was a bit pricey.
We marketed it as a higher end shallow woofer... but the price was more than most dealers/reps wanted to market it at under the T3 name.

We will introduce our revised TFL woofer in January. It will be very affordable, but it will be about 3.75" deep..... where the first one was only 2.75".

It will be a 2.5" voicecoil on aluminum former.
8" spiders, good excursion, a 80 oz.motor.
It will only be a 250rms/500peak woofer.
We rate our power handling properly....

What's the point of a shallow mount sub if it has very low Xmax?

Most of that subs have extremely low Xmax.

Do you know any shallow mount sub with more than 10mm one way Xmax?

Well, looking at it from a realistic point of view, I appluad the shallow mount woofers! As Johnathan pointed out above, he is rating his with a 2.5" voice coil at 250 watts rms, a realistic power handling for that size of coil...with that rated rms you don't need butloads of xmax to do the job as the woofer shouldn't be moving that much unless the installer does something wrong! A true daily driver application should still yield promising results without 50 mm one way travel and that is what this type of driver is designed for, daily driving, not competition!

Hey Johnathan, send me a couple so I can put some bass in my van...wife won't let me put a box behind the back seat anymore since we have a family of 7 and only seating for 7...she claims we need the cargo room, I guess she don't want the kids holding bags of groceries

I can see it now, subs mounted in the doors and the hatch of the caravan...Hey, send me 6 and I bet I make top 8 in super street 5+ next year [Wink]

The JL has 9.7mm Xmax based on 1way overhang with no correction factors as JL claims. Also, a power handling of 300rms. Being JL rated, they should go to 600rms before voiding warranty. not bad. 600rms with 2.5" mounting depth.(5.5" voicecoil)

not an easy sell from a sales associate standpoint, but sometimes the only option.

I've never heard of anything else like it. 600rms on a shallow mount, AND very efficient.
a 2.5" mounting depth?..there's tweeters with more depth than that, and I know of nothing else that word-up.
a 5.5" voicecoil, super sweet.
I would also put money on it they are super reliable.
no real bump to the backplate and little room for radial venting, otherwise excursion could be increased to at least 13mm, but true linearity would be sacrificed. either way, the Xmech is definitely over 15mm one-way.

eD makes a 3" shallow 10" for like $70 they claim 9.3mm one way excursion.

That audiopipe woudl be great if it could take 1k rms, let us know.
