Picked these up on eBay for cheap...no name(seller said it's Pioneer) but since it has a cancellation magnet I think it came from some home audio gear or some sort.

6 1/2 inch SVC woofer, TWO spiders, ABS hard plastic basket( [Confused] ), deep basket design, NO surrounds...coil reads 6.4ohm on my multimeter. Ran it briefly free air and it seems to have decent excursion...never seen anything like it.

one of the cones got pushed in during shipping, does anyone know a good way to pull it back out?

strong tape and/or vacuum.

neato though, get a video of it playing something like 20hz. You should build a quick box to check em out.

WOW Havent seen those for a while.
Yes they are pioneer. When they move the backside/seal under the actual cone is Styrofoam.
The were made for the arcade industry. I know for a fact they are in Time Crisis 2/3 and games like that at the bottom of the cabinet behind the grill in a .22 cu ft box ported.

I had two but they walked away been looking for some since.
They have hella excursion. Had about 200wrms each when i used to play with them.

Do you have a link on ebay where you found them?

Thanks
Marc

Well here it is

 -

I got just a bit under an inch of ptp excursion but it can probably move more, but since it's not in a box I don't wanna risk burning it out. 200 watts RMS a piece is too much I think since the coil wire isn't thick or anything. Definitely pretty cool to see a speaker with no surrounds moving air [Smile] You can increase the cone area by at least 10% if this design is used in a bigger woofer, doesn't seem hard to copy it.

...cough sub builders make a prototype cough...

I believe they can take a good 50~100 watts each, I stuffed one of them in a sealed tube and it was actually pretty damn loud for something so small - gonna make a box for them today to see if these can compete with Audiobahn and eD's mini woofers.

Maybe I'll bang together a snailshell and see what happens

Those subs look like a prototype model or something...with the frame made of plastic, could be cheaper to model a speakers performance and c hange the design fast by using plastic instead of stamped steel. But it does look like those things would perform perfectly in the rear deck of a car with some heavy bass results from them too.
