Recently I had been playing around with my set-up, and was having trouble with bass-output. ALthough I was feeding my subs a decent supply of juice, the bass was still severly diluted. This was due in part that my non-fold~down rear seats where absorbing alot of the bass out-put of the subs and was causing them to cancel out slighty behind the seats, I decided to resolve this by removing a 2X2 ft baffle board mounted behind the arm-rest, this created a hole for the bass to funnel through into the cabin.

Doing this resulted in improved SPL performance, my SUB's now have more Dymamic impact, and slam harder and cleaner...this also increased my upper mid-bass out-put in the 70HZ-100HZ freq'y range creating a sound with more clarity to complement my front stage. It is highly recomended to any-one trying to improve bass response inside their car.

It's funny how sometimes people ask how to improve their bass...when somthing as simple as that will get them improved bass response without the nedd of upgrading and spending more un-necessarily.

I guess the fact that the perceived sound increased would be pretty obvious... And JAY1ER is right, it's not really something new; I think it's more of a common sense sort of thing, though it never hurts to point out your findings, someone will always find it useful.

You mentioned increased output in the 70-100hz region; I'm guessing the trunk is acting as a ported chamber of it's own?
Everyone has different opinions on SQ, and I could see someone with poor midbass liking this increase, however many people wouldn't like sounds in this high of a frequency range coming from the sub: it'd sound like it's coming from behind us.

BTW, what kind of enclosure set-up do you have? Sealed, ported, IB?

To increase spl in any situation, you need to:

-stop smoking (and use that money to buy better audio stuff)

-use aeroport with vented box

-use your brain not your money to get more watts(that the last thing you need to do)

- search info on this forum about the guys with great score.

-use duck tape to the right place

...

..

.

I didn't say it was new...but alot of people ask how to improve, since not all cars have fold down seats..(like mine)...it is necessary to vent the output of the subs into the cabin area, otherwise alot of bass is lost...Adding bigger woofers and changing to higher current amps can be a waste of time to get more bass.

My perception of more bass was not an illusion compared to my previous exposure of bass out-put...and my results where significant. Any door speaker has it's limit on how much mid-bass it produces... the upper 60-100HZ range my subs now emit have better dynamic and musical impact than any 6"-8" woofer...that is my opinion...but the sound of a sub going woomf woomf LOUD...is a waste of power and sound compared to a sub that slams your chest with tight impact.

My set-up is an IB set-up with 2 JL-13W7's.
