At first when this discution started about the ABC Box it sounded like all a guy had to do is look at the woofers largest posable box and port make three ports and add 1/2 of the vol. of the main box to the side with the third port between them. Now you are saying this...
quote:First calculate the largest box volume the sub will be effective in, then figure lenths for 2 ports in the box... Now divide the volume by three.
witch volume ie. port, box, head space???
quote: add the two port lenths together and divide that by three... This is it, too easy eh???
I like to some time know why I am doing what I am doing. With my other post (att. Dukk) I asked if I shoud use the box paramitars for the 4" ports or the 3" ports. Is the reson you said the 3" because all that talk about what is in that Quote is done? but realy when I use the 3" port in the ABC to only put one port per side of the divider and one in the divider? Then just forget all that. I plan to build one box just to see if I like them and if it rocks the I will build one big on for all 8 subs.

THe box really isn't that complicated to design, just to build.
Figure out the require box size: eg 6 cuft. Divide that 2/3 and 1/3: eg 4 cuft and 2 cuft. Figure out a pair of ports for a 6 cuft box: eg Two 4" ports 6" long each. Cut three ports this length: eg three 4" ports, each one 6" long. Install the woofer and 1 port in the 4 cuft side, a port in the 2 cuft side, and the third port in the wall between the two sides.
To get it down perfect you need to compensate accurately for the vent and driver displacements.
It's quite simple, no?

And that's the bottom line, cuz: LORD DUKK SAYS SO!

Oops, I did it wrong, I added the two port lenths and divided it by three... Hmmm... Still sounds good though?!? Like Dukk said, it is really easy, it only took me a couple of hours to design and partially build...

The required box size for my 10" sub from CV is 1.6Ft^3 that is the 2/3 right? That is what I understood befor or do we divide that (1.6) buy 2/3. If so that is great. I was thinking this box was going to be .5 time bigger then a normal box would be.

1 If it is gust a mater of taking the biggest box in my case 1.6Ft^3 and making that box into two chambers with the ports for that 1.6 box then I have all the ansures in front of me. 2 If the box needs to be a total of 2.4 and port figured for the 2.4 box then I do not have the ansures. 3 Or if I need the box to be 2.4 but use the doble ports for the 1.6 box I'm good to go.
It sound to me It is going to be the second of the three possability I gave.
I said it before and now I know why I always stayed with the sealed boxes. Now that I have this DB itch I need Ports.
Are you sure that 1.6 is at the top of the Recomended box sizes? If so subdivde it up 1/3 and 2/3. And cut three ports figureing the port length using half of the 1.6 as your Vb.
I am not familiar with your subs. However the Box is way small by the looks. I think you should make it a little bigger. Have Dukk run it through TermPro and see how big of box you should use. From my experience with them using all JL subs ABC's don't work well when too small...

They are only 10" Vega's. The box has two diferent ported box volumes. 1. 1.25Ft^3 with 1-125watts 2. 1.6Ft^3 with 125-300Watts I'm runing at the low end of the 125-300Watts.

So realy the math is already done I just need to build the box as the box said and use the two 3" ports @ 17.25" longh with the box divided 2/3 and 1/3. If some one would run my sub through Termpro to see what I says to do.

Hmmm... simple. SEALED! All you young whippersnappers and these fancy-schmanzy new fang-dangled box designs! Why when I was your age we built sub boxes on our way to school, in the snow, with no shoes uphill both ways! And we liked not having all these new designs.... NOT!

Sealed may *****in your opinion, but not in everyone's opinion. Not mine. In fact, you changed my mind about vented boxes, Dukk, dont be so closed minded! Sealed works perfectly for some woofers, and vented works perfectly for some woofers, it's all in the application. By the way, I'm 31, but was just poking fun at the box designs of today. I remember when a simple bandpass was like the bitchest thing that I thought I'd ever seen, then, all these new designs came around, and I'm lost on most of them, I've been out of this professionally for about 5 years now, and only do this to satisfy my own interests, which are NOT in these ABC box designs. I was just poking fun... Snapper head!!!

Audiophyle I mean Grandpa, I hate to break this to you but there hasn't been a new box design in years, They just keep getting rediscovered... I kinda wish us young whippersnappers did create a new design, I am getting bored again with sealed boxes...
