Ok, I have never really used nor liked most of the ported boxes that I have heard. But I am always open to new things. I have 2 Orion XTR 99series DVC 10's. Right now they are in a .75 cu ft each chamber sealed box. Now according to Orions site these can go into a 1.25 cu ft ported box with a 3X10 port. My question is why choose a ported over a sealed box. I prefer nice tight bass with some low bass also. I have a good response from my tens now but I would like to get a little more from them. So would building a ported box with the ports through the rear deck be the little more without loosing the way the sound is now?

I've gone through these a few times on here.. Porting over Sealed PRO's -usually lower Fc so they play the deep notes we can hear better. -usually louder. When is this NOT cool? -usually have much less cone movement (above tuning) and less movement means less distortion... -more sensitive, meaning they take less power to get loud. -are not as boring as a sealed box!
CONs -larger box, almost always. -poor power handling below tuning (but this can be designed and compensated for) -sound REALLY bad when not built correctly! You can hoop a sealed box pretty bad and it will still sound OK. -ultimately a sealed box does play lower but at the freq we can hear a vented plays them better, usually.
There's other stuff but this is the most relevant...
