Im designing a box thats 3.125 cubes before displacement (anyone know displacement of each RE8) I was planning on putting two 4" pvc ports in the box. IS this too much port for these RE8's???
Thanks in advance.

Displacement is 0.09 per sub. 6-8 sq. in. of port per sub should work well. I'm currently running 8 of those subs and they are incredibly versatile and meaty little monsters! I think you will enjoy them.

Kind Regards,
Matt

4 is fine but length is the question. Running 3 or 2 will create a whisling sound.

alright thanks, i think im going to have two 4" PVC about 9-10 inches long. My box is a little less than 3 cubes after sub displacement. I think its tuned in the low 30's, should sound great. Thanks for the help!

I used WINDISD's online vent calculator (http://www.linearteam.dk/default.aspx?pageid=ventcalculator), and with 3 cu ft tuned to 32 hz, 2 4" ports would have to be 19" long. 1 4" ports would be 8". 2 3" ports would be 10".

Use two 4" ports 17" long if you can. Tunes to about 33Hz with a 3cf enclosure. You can use 90 degree elbows if needed. A single 5" vent 13" long would work also.

should give you pretty flat response....personally I tune to around 20-24hz, not sure too lazy to calculate it 8) but anyways if I were you I'd go for the single 5" port just because it's easier to do and you don't have to mess around with elbows and such.

haha, well i kinda already made the box :-)
but for next time... where do they sell 5-6" PVC? orchard supplys? i looked at home depot but i couldnt find it, maybe it was just me tho.

I think the two 4" PVC will work for now tho. Maybe ill build another box when i get the time.

Thanks for the help guys!

If you use two 4" diameter ports 10 inches long each you are going to be tuned to around 43 hz after port and sub displacement, not low 30's! To get down to 33 hz you'll need a pair of 4" ports 20 inches long.

Why not do a slot port?
