i have been pondering the thought of buying these subs, where i live they are around 400 each,i dont know if that is expensive for them or not.I used to have 2 8"kickers in my old mustang ,which i liked very much.I know have a 1991 ford taurus with more space to play i would like to get a better system should i go with the alpine zr subs or stick with the kickers

I've never been impressed by any of the Alpine drivers, with the exception of the old 6011cx tweeters. They were sweet! I'd wait and let someone else buy a pair, then get in they're car and give them a good listening too.

I generally haven't been too impressed with ALpine speakers either since they stopped buying them in Europe (6061s and 6022s by Dynaudio, yum!)
Actually, the ZRs aren't too bad a woof BUT you CANNOT use them in the 'recommended' box of about 0.85 sealed. They *****big time. Unfortunately neither of the 'big dealers' here with Alpine have box design programs so I get at least one guy a month into the store desperate for help after following their 'advice' and making the recommended box. Drop them into 1.25-1.75 vented though and it's a whole new woofer - powerful, tight, responsive.

And that's the bottom line, cuz: LORD DUKK SAYS SO!

400 each is way too expensive there like 270 MSRP each and u should be able to get them cheaper if your shop gives good deals, and dukk is right that they sound alot better in a bigger box i run mine in 1cu.ft sealed which made it sound a heck of alot better than that .85
