I've been reading the posts on here for quite some time and learned probably everything I know from here, but I am still confused on one thing...tuning a box.How exactly do you tune a box, particularly a ported box?Does it have to do with how deep your port is or what?Any explainations would be greatly appreciated.

Best thing to do is d/l winISD.
You'll need the specs for your woofer.
In reality, box tuning is a function of the volume of air in the box and the dimensions of the port. As the port gets longer, tuning goes down. Same thing happens if you make the box bigger or use a port with a smaller surface area. Then formula is easy to use but long so just use winISD. select a ported box of the size you want and then play around with different ports. It's not always easy to get a port to fit.

emu is right, the best way to go is to download winisd, put in ur sub T/S parameters, choose the box type ... then choose the tunning freq and box size and after that u'd go to the port section and play with port size till u get a good match.
just download the thing, play with it for a few dayz and u'll get it.
anywayz, good luck.

Another thing I was wondering is how to or can you tune a box after it is built.I read guys all the time sayin their box is tuned to 45 hz then someone says tune it to 35 hz.How would you go about doin this or would you have to build another box?

again, you would use a program like winisd to find out how long ur port should be at 35hz, for example, and then take apart ur box, cut the port to match that length

if your box is tuned to say 45 Hz you could get on winISD and figure the area of port you would have to block, to get the port to tune lower to say 35 Hz. basically just blocking off a part of the port to tune lower.
