2 18" RF subs in a hatch (Very Small hatch).
I have designed a box for both 18's in a V Box.
Firing to the rear.
I can only put the ports on top of the box.

Would that be a problem ?
Or will it work ? [Confused]

Thanks
Daniel

How large is the enclosure that your going to be working with? A wall might be a better solution [Smile]

Also what program did you design that in [Confused]

I will do a wall later when I have money for a bd1500. Then I can use all 4 18"s.
The box is 33.46" Wide, 18.7" High, 21.65" Deep.
Working out the port size is not a problem.

Just not sure how well the ports will work firing up and the subs firing back. [Confused]
I think I'm going to go with the 2nd idea.

PS: I used Solidworks 2001 Plus. Very Nice !

Well I don't see any promblems with the ports being on the top of the enclosure. What type of port are you going with and what tunning?

Choosing between those two designs is tough.
in the top pic you may have a gain because of better acoustic coupling (from the drivers facing each other)

however in the second pic you may have a gain due to corner loading the drivers in the vehicle.

just a thought but if you built them in seperate boxes (split that box in two) you could try it both ways as well as facing the speaks at an upward or donward angle [Wink]

whatever you do please show the results!!

By the by excellent diagrams!!

What program did you use?

I haven't given it much thought.
But will most likely got for rectangle Ports 4"x4".
Tuned to 35Hz.
One port in each corner.

Now I just have to wait for the wood to come [Frown]
But they said next week sometime [Big Grin]

DJ007: I use Solidworks 2001Plus.
Very nice program, Still learning to use it though.
I am limited to space. If I split the box in 2, then I cannot use the first box. Magnets are almost touching the sides as it is.
Acoustic coupling or Corner loading ?
In the first box I might also get cancelation.
Not sure.
Will corner loading work with a ported enclosure?
Maybe I should build the first box, then try it while building the second box.

scott: Good idea. Will model it and see what I can come up with.

How does this look ?
3" ports, thats all there is space for.
I haven't decided on tuning.
35Hz sounds good, but 45Hz my work better.

i am glad that you could use my idea....
3 inch ports may be a little small for an 18.. you can always add more, but they will all have to be longer then... if you could make the box 2 inches taller then you could run a big slot port across the bottom or top of the box.

also.. do you want the subs to share airspace for any particular reason? i think it would be better to use a solid piece of wood between the two "halves" and give each sub it's own airspace.

I checked it out in Bassbox Pro 6.
Port noise is way down when I have a common chamber, cuz there are 4 ports.

With individual chambers it will get port noise, due to only 2 ports per sub.

The height is already on the limit.
The spec size for the box is the limits.. Sorry [Frown]

But good idea though. [Wink]

Anybody with more ideas ? [Big Grin]

Boom too bad you can't make two boxes.
Otherwise the only way to know for sure is to try both or find someone who has [Frown]

Excellent modeling I'm going to have to get your prog and play play play!!

Best of luck and again please post results!

Ok, I have fine tuned my box size.
I will get more space using the second box, due to rear arc in hatch.
With maximum size I get 5.684 Cubes.
5.166 Cubes after Brace's and sub's displacements.

I get roughly the same responce keeping the box sealed as opposed to porting it [Confused]

Can somebody run the specs to check ?

Thanks
Daniel
