I want to get a good single 12" give me 60 spl and 40 SQ. I heard alot of good things of IDMAX. What about the XXX 12" or a HC 12" (maybe)....These things are a beast!I dont want to build a huge box. What would you choose?!?! Daily driver, not competing. Gonna use a Visonik X900XD amp.....Shipping is kinda big to ship a XXX, i think its like 124 for shipping, 64 for SE and 104 for the HC...what would be a good one?!?1

image dynamics has an spl competiton hitting 152 with 1 12" idmax. It's a common misconception that the idmax's have no spl

This post just caught my eye. I noticed a lot of ID people in the post are under the impression that the MAX is a much better sub than the XXX and I am just curious as to what the conditions were when ya'll heard the two subs? I mean, I am assuming that you've had time to demo each sub and get a good idea of their strengths and weaknesses.

Frankly, I have a very hard time beleiving that the IDMAX is going to be better than the XXX in 60 SPL 40SQ, though the only IDMAX I have heard was awhile back and not a newer version. I DO have an XXX and it is an amazing sub. So, just curious to get some SPECIFIC info on which areas the IDMAX beat the XXX.

I just check the ID website and the XXX has considerably more linear XMAX than the IDMAX, though it does have about the same suspension throw...

Thanks for the info,
Ash

i dont understand how you guys say the idmax cant get loud. Dingaling hit a 146.9 in a 1.3 SEALED box with 1100 watts. There was a guy in dbdrag this season in s1-2 w/ 2 idmax v2 ported off 2kw. He hit 153.xx certified and like 155 uncertified.

I wasn't saying that the IDMAX will not get loud. I was merely stating that the XXX has a good bit more linear travel, so if you're looking for loud SQ (aka SQL) then it would seem to have an advantage.

It is certainly not at any disadvantage...

BTW ImageD, I looked back through the post, and not once, anywhere, did anyone say that the IDMAX wouldn't get loud...who are you talking to???

nofriends, honestly either sub is going to be great, in either kind of box if you really design it well, and install it right. I don't think that you are going to get many real, totally unbiased opinions on here, and even if you did then it would be a matter of whether your personal SQ tastes happen to coincide with the person giving the review.

If they don't, then a good review from that person may lead you to buy the wrong product.
LOL sucks, huh?

Which, basically leaves you with specs, but even those are of limited use sometimes...

Ash

no, i understand what you're saying, but the whole 60/40 just doesn't seem right. I believe it would be harder to get an idmax louder than an XXX, but it certainly has the possibility as seen by dingaling's scores and by the scores posted by that guy in street 1-2 this year (forgot his name). And sq should lean towards the idmax, but once again, any install can sound like crap and any could sound awsome. both are good subs, and hell, you'll never know which one was better when you get your sub. So, just pick the one which you like better, be it looks, xmax ratings, reviews from people, spl scores, install pics, etc...

the IDMAX will is a tiny bit more effcient (1-2dB slightly audible..)

the XXX can handle much more power.. but both drivers will be fine with the given power

i should of gotten a IDMAX v3 instead of 2 15" L5, 3 days used, trying to get rid of it right now, so i can get a IDMAX....but look like no ones wants to buy it, so i'm just gonna try sell one, keep the other one, and use the money to buy some front comps rear coaxials....and on the side get some sound deadning, power wire and speaker wire....

Sucks! dam...i went with the L5s because of people choices and opinions, i should of went with the IDMAX because i heard great things and it would fit in my new car....dam the 2 15" L5 wont fit...its 9.6cf total box, gonna cut that basterd in half....

but great topic!!! when i do sell it all if i can, gonna get a IDMAX v3 for sure.... or an XXX....dam alot of competition here....

I saw this post and had to comment. I have heard numerous setups with both subs and BOTH are AMAZING subs. I currently am selling a pair of BRAND NEW IDMAX v2's after buying them based on my experiences but now want the new V3's or you guesses it, XXX's. I have not heard the V3's yet so I dont know if they're any better. One question is, did they resolve the coil rubbing issues on the new series as I have HEARD there was a problem but have never witnessed it. Ok, now onto my opinion. The XXX is flatout a better sub. This is based on EXPERIENCE with BOTH. The XXX is without a doubt louder as far as SPL, and the SQ between the too is not as big as you may think. The XXX is known for getting loud while the IDMAX is known as an SQL sub so most people assume the IDMAX is that much better in SQ. This is not the case. The XXX has outstanding SQ due to the XBL^2 technology and can definately hang with the IDMAX in that department when properly setup, its just that most people who have XXX's tune higher for SPL. I have heard both in different setups and think you wont go wrong EITHER way, just depends on what you're doing. If you wanna compete in DBDrag then go IDMAX's so you can go in S1-2. If this is just for personal gratification then I think you'll be happier with the XXX's. 57 lbs of pure destruction, and they sound good too. Reason Im considering the IDMAXs instead of the XXX's is I think I wanna compete next season in s1-2 and cant with the Quad coil XXX's.

Just wanted to add, before I get jumped on, is that the reason I say the XXX is without a doubt louder, is that given optimal conditions the XXX will be louder. It's just a fact. The single IDMAX hitting 152, I would assume will not last very long uner those conditions, however, I DO NOT know that for a fact as I dont know how it is setup. BUT, most people with single ported MAX's are in the 147-48 range while a few people with single XXX's with a single RE35.1 are right in the 150.x range. Keep in mind the XXX can also handle more than that single RE amp, its so hard to compare as so many people do a swap and think the IDMAXs are louder. BUT you need to realize that due to the different coil configuration the XXX might be seeing less power. THEY ARE NOT QUAD 1 ohm as most people think, you will not get full power out of a 1 ohm amp. Just my $.02
