okie.... im gettin 4 of these subs.. i like good quality bass.. spl is almost unimportant to me.. i mean, if i hit 140 ill be satisfied, i just want a nice tight *thump* to my stuff...listening to punk rock, and stuff such as this... i care not about spl some of you may be asking.... why id he running 4 of anything if hes not doing spl..... well, i want to be different.... screw the 2 ten 2 12 systems.... im different and im proud of it my question is this.... im probably putting them in a box that gives them .46 cubic feet sealed.. i know they call for .3 but ive always found a bit bigger doesnt "choke" the woofers as bad on loewr notes.. so, should i make the box bigger, smaller, or leave it alone? and no, im NOT PORTING THEM so dont ask Ryan =o)

Do you have the subs? Or are you buying them?
Because it would probably be cheaper to get 2 12's...maybe 2 15's rather than buying 4 8's. The 15's would put away 4 8's at the same wattage. You'd need 1 or 2 more 8's to compare to the 15's.
Of course..you'd need a lot bigger box for the 15's...though the 12's wouldn't take up much more..if anymore space than the 8's.
Unless of course you're doing this all for originality and to impress people by having 8's.

Patrick Have you ever tried to play some good ol EXploited, or some Rancid, or strung out, or anything like that on 15s ill bet every one on the market will fall flat on its voice coil theyre too heavy, cant keep up with real time kick drums... i listend to my friends subs <2 kicker comp 15s, punch 800a2> the other day and about puked at how bad they sounded on OpIV... god it was like listening to one of those thin metal sheets they use for thunder being snapped over and over again ugh... lol JMO though, some ppl loooooooove 15s, and i admit, theyre hard to beat for spl purposes, but loudness isnt what i want... anyone with enough money and space can make something loud lots of cone area+lots of power+fairly decent box=loud
many many factors added together=quality

Some of the best systems in the world as far as sound Q use a 15 or two. Some even use 18's. When you want quailty as you say. A little ten to play at the same volume has to move alot more than a 15. And when it has to move farther there is typically more distortion. A JL 15 cone isn't much heavier than some companies 10's. And when done right will rock on any music. The problem is most people that have 15's probably like your friend and his kickers boost 30Hz and such for the boom boom...

You should hear double bass drums on my wife's 15s..... Actually, it's cool cuz you CAN hear them, every beat. But hey, use the 8s - they're awesome!
Winslow: did I miss your post? Sorry. Punch 8" in 1 cuft with a 3x10"long vent is really nice. You can shrink it to .75 with a 3x14 too but the vent might be tricky to install - I suggest a slot.

Are you kidding?!? I'm always praising the Punch (now XLC) 8". Those babies ROCK and are damn near indestructible!! (well 2 had no problem off a 225.2 anyway)
I've got a mint Punch 8 when they first came out with the inverted dustcap - the diamond R isn't even filled in, it's just an outline!
I've even got a pair of Power 8s that need reconing (wicked slasher attack).
The wife's car has a pair of Classic 8s to make midbass for the Classic 15s (geez is ALL my stuff old?!? )
Tech and Plymouth Bass share my affection for the Punch 8 - one of the true standout woofers in the history of car audio.
