im in the process of making a box for two 12"dd 3000 ported was wondering if it makes a difference if the subs are closer together or as far apart as posible it will be a rectangle shaped box

In the biggest of car you will only be able to get them 4" apart max. That need not be a issue here. The issue will be to put the ports on the same face as the subs are on and also making the box the right volume and port size and length. If the subs say they need 2 cu.ft. per woofer. See if that is net or gross. Meaning you may have to add the displasment of the woofer and port to the box sive giving you a box of 2.???? in the end.

What do you mean even in the biggest of cars you can only get them 4 inches apart....? I can name a ton of cars that you can make your subs more than four inches apart. Most sedans have 34-36 inches between the wheels in the trunk. Plenty of room. Not to mention different sub locations.
