im thinking of using one eq for every amp in my system after my friend told me he used to run multiple eqs, one per pair of speakers he said

i would use 2 on a 4 channel amp, one for each side, that will play midbass and the other for mids

then another one for the tweeter amp, then one for the bass

thing im confused about is my crossover, i have a coustic xm-6, will i not need it? or maybe i could use more than one?

thanks

Are you just trying to make it more difficult to get good sound? You don't need more than one eq per channel, left and right. Put it before the crossover so all the speakers are equalized. Use a crossover that lets you run the speakers the way you want.

one eq per channel? [Roll Eyes]

2 speakers go on one 'channel' of a 4 channel amp, 2 speakers go on the sub amp that has one channel, and 2 tweeters go on one 'channel' of the tweeter amp

are you telling me to use one eq per channel? left and right? or are you talking stupidness? [Confused]

i have 4mids 4 tweeters 2 subs that all need equalising, suely you arent telling me to use 2 eqs, one for left and right channels of all the speakers, subs and tweets? [Roll Eyes]

thanks [Big Grin]

jc2....please consider the recipient of knowledge here....you will have to be DIRELY specific in transporting any valuable intelligence since the blatant embrace of stupidity seems to reject anything useful from its presence...

ok....so here it goes....we have here....a head unit....this particular head unit has preouts....now...these preouts go to the EQ....what this does is sends a clean, unadulterated signal to the EQ....from the EQ, which also has outputs, the signal is then altered to the settings you chose(i can't imagine how ungodly horrendous the settings you choose will be)...you take the signals from the EQ and send them to the amplifier....in your case, this is all done with RCAs....RCAs from the L/R channels of the HU to the EQ....and then the L/R channels from the EQ to the amplifier(s)....done....you have EQ'ed your system...you can use either a stereo EQ for this or two mono EQs....most EQs can act as line drivers, so you've effectively lowered the noise floor of the system....if the EQ affects every frequency band in the system(or sufficiently enough), then why would you need to change the frequency response in every separate speaker?...a frequency is either too loud or too quiet in any given setup....so changing it from multiple sources would prove pointless....the only thing that needs to be dialed in per channel is phase shifting....but...it's not needed and often leads to single seat focus....

if multiple amps is a problem, that is the reason they make RCA splitters and pass-throughs on amps...

and the next time you say jc2 is "talking stupidness" as you like to call it, read back some of your own "stupidness" sometime....and discover who the real progenitor of unfaltering ignorance is....

Once settled, the fully adjustable seat is very comfortable, the plane leaves and arrives on time without a single problem, the in-flight meal is wonderful. You try to tell customers of the other airlines about the great trip, but all they can say is, "You had to do what with the seat?"

firstly, cant argue with the first paragraph [Roll Eyes]

and for the record i never called anyone posts stupidness just being hard man i know y'all know more than me, sheesh

anyway OT...

ive never used an eq but as far as i can tell i'd want one for each amp beause they all play different things, one will play 2...

one plays bass, one plays highs (twets) and one will play midbass and mids

would io not want seperate equalisation for these things? or is it possible to get this from one eq? [Confused] maybe thats where im confused

i just thought it'd be wise to have totl control over each speaker and the roll it would play

and i would have all the settings set by a pro of course, i cant tune my system to save my life [Frown]

it doesn't matter what the amps play....the EQ only changes the source material...the amps handle the frequency range on their own...

although i would enjoy seeing some poor guy beating the **** out of his head trying to tune an individual driver EQ'ed system....it would be hilarious....

lol, ok, so maybe i need one crossover channel per amp, which i already have [Roll Eyes]

so i just need one eq then? [Confused]

you need a crossover for subs, mids, highs and 1 eq and thats it just about every good eq has a set of outputs for subs, mids, highs and most amps have a highpass and lowpass crossover built in

now you may want 2 crossover points per set for example

put a lowpass x over of 30hz and a highpass of 100hz on the sub

then a lowpass of 100hz and a highpass of 800hz on the mids

then a 800hz lowpass and a 30000hz highpass on your highs(this highpass isnt really nessecary since we cant really hear that high of a note but you get the idea)

as far as one eq per set definatly not nessesary but the crossover points are more realistic to keep each individual set from playing unwanted freqencys

the only reason i see useing 2 or 3 is if you have too much money and time on your hands

the reasons to buy a crossover would be if the amps don't have one built in per amp....or you just want a unified x-over system if all the amp crossovers are the same...or a different slope...some x-overs can act as a line driver as well if you don't have a strong HU...but only 1 eq is needed
