I've seen a lot of people post on here about modifying their amps. Unfortunately, I have no clue where to even start to learn about this. Any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

most peoples' mention of modifying amps is just taking the protection out, usually involves a resistor. some consider it putting the same pcb in a differnet amp chassis, such as the old vlx 25 and us amps 400, 400x. the very few require much thought, like changing cap, swapping z44 for 3710s, upgrading inductors and rectifiers.

Which amps do you have in mind, or just amps in general? My amps like 17.5 volts after the modding to make max power and would not yield optimim performance for daily driving- in my opinion.

The market is saturated with quality car amplifiers for a reasonable price, it doesn't make any sense to modify a weaker amplifier to yield more power then the more powerful amplifier just cost a few bucks more.
If you are doing it for the "I did it" factor, then go for it.

thats awsome do they make wings for mmats amps too maybe a bodykit and cold air intake
kidding aside call crossfire and ask them if they modd amps
ofcoarse once your amp is modded you warrenty goes bye bye
when mine was modded the protection was removed then they made a few board modds and then they slap a cap on the side of the amp maybe ill paint my cap like a nitrous bottle ...J/K
good luck

In order to modify an amplifier you need to understand how it works, and which are the MOST important parts of the amplifier, and how it will be used. Start with the Power supply(the transformer & Capacitors), the heart of any amplifier, then look at the pre-amp section, the protection and output transistors, go to higher tolerance parts, instead of say 10% go for 5%, calculate how much it will all cost, versus a more powerful amp off the shelf. Unless of course you plan to build your own amplifier, as thylantyr mentioned it doesn't make sense to mod a weaker amplifier.

Modded amps are usually not for daily drivers, they are for SPL competitors. Some common reasons amplifiers are modified is because alot of amplifiers produce more power above 14v, also there are rules and limits as to how many amps or what power competitors are allowed to use when we compete.

wtf is higher tolerance parts going to do? not going to be much of a mod at all...

Higher tolerance parts got me an extra 24 watts out of a 100w/ch amp and it made for some nice extra headboom..,er headroom. And that was just the stiffening caps and various resistors. I still say look at the cost difference of a cheaper amp and having it modified, then buying the same power off the shelf with the money spent on the modified cheaper amp..,after all it IS your coin.
