Hey, i got a pyramid 400w amp i have had messed up for some time now and i only gave $40 for it brand new and it stopped one day when it got VERY Hot then shut off. Every since that day, the protection light never shuts off.

I want to be able to learn about the internal parts of the amp and be able to possible fix it and mod it.

I know nothing about the internal parts of an amp and need safety guidelines so i do not injure myself or the car when hooked up for testing.

Like for instance, when hooked up to the car, as long as i have the fuse in the amp and on power line, i should be safe?

And also, what should i NOT be touching in the amp that could possible injure myself before or after running the amp?

Any good websites to learn how to mod amps or do anything to it to make it louder or anything basically.

Thanks for any advice.

First, learn everything you can about amps.

Have an experienced friend help you!!

You can burn up your car!!!

I would never "TEST" a know bad amp in a car for risk of it being shorted and burning car.

I would test outside of car, carpet house, etc. I usually work in an empty garage with concrete work area.

Use the smallest fuse possible for the amp to turn on at lowest volume then increase it.

Double check amp with meter before turning it on or connecting power to it.

If you or a friend don't know what your doing don't do it!!!

I like to learn by frying/destroying things...but thats just me [Smile]

Seriously though, if you really dont know much about amplifiers, and you would like to learn, the first step would be to purchase a book covering the fundamentals of electricity and electronics. You have to learn to walk before you can run, right? [Smile]
