From what I understand, in a simple ported box (see picture, imagine without the curves) in a perfect world, you get a 90 degree phase change on the back wave (tell me if I'm wrong)

Last year I saw many people with curved pieces in their boxes, and I was wondering how this effects phasing, and if it helps by cutting down on air turbulence in the box.

?

Here's what I mean by curved pieces. Go MSPAINT!

Well, you can gain a few dB's by it.

If you want to make some curves, go HERE

I was planning to, but I wanna know the math behind it [Smile]

Remember wave alignment and such, 1/4 wave theory only work in two dimensions. Something to consider. not many people realize that. If that stuff worked i'm sure we'd all have amazing spl scores by now. wave alignment works in width and length. but when you add height, remember sound waves move in all directions. You have constructive waves and cancellation to deal with. and a cars interior isn't the perfect shape either.......

Well, yes and no. I've been hammering out a really strange design. I'm just wondering if there's a good gain (from wave alignment, which is probably no, or reduction in turbulence) from doing it.

Please tell me the more detailed reason, as it could show if my design will work or not [Smile]

his works on more of a well I'll let him tell you [Big Grin] just Pm LBKC. I can tell you it is not on wave alignment.
wave alignment ONLY works in two dimensions.....not 3....so no it will not work [Cool]

And what happens if we extend the port to the right so that the port flow passes over the subs?
