Maybe someone can help me with this. I'm wanting to hook up 2 12v dc power supplies together to get more current. How should I do this without hurting either one of them? I thought of using really heavy diodes between them. Would that work? Any input is appreciated.

Eric

ehhh I don't know about that one...If you're not highly experienced in electronics and circuitry I'd stay away from this attempt...I didn't even know it was possible and I know if you don't know what you're doing you'll wind up with two dead power supplies.

I'm talking about just a power supply, like an astron, pyramid, etc. High current ones that will run amps, radios. I've got a 45A one and thought about getting another one, but wasn't for sure the best way to hook them both up to an amp without power backfeeding into the other.

It really depends on the power supplies, some god lab grade power supplies you could just simply hook together. I had 3-4 HP programmable supplies that I could tie together to get 150A or so. However those supplies have lots of protection circuitry and won't die even if you short them.
Regular power supplies without protection circuits like that probably will die, whichever one has the higher voltage will try to dump lots of current into the load, and the other won't do much. You could use high power resistors in line with both supplies, then the resistors would cause a voltage drop and unless the 2 supplies have a big difference in voltage they will be fine.
