Here's two technologies that are either already on their way or completely capable with chips off the shelf, but haven't been sold yet...
1. MP3-DVD decks. Instead of MP3-CD's with 10 albums of info, you now get about 70 on one DVD-R. I'm looking for a walkman sized one. I'd love to know if any are coming out soon.
2. "TIVO" style head units. Sony already makes a deck with a hard disk installed. It can't be too much harder to add the time-shifting capability like Tivo. This will be great for those of us that like to listen to shows like Howard Stern. One - for commercial fast forwarding, and two, to be able to listen to the whole show. (Who has a 4 hour commute??)
Would any of you buy this if it were out?

Eh.. not really to be honest.. Even with a couple hours of commute per day, I just can't bring myself to have TOO much music to flip through.. It gives me A.D.D with music and I never just sit through a song but keep flipping and flipping and flipping and...
Tivo? Not sure.. I think it would be a little too awkward. I like to just sit back and listen, not fiddle. But I also detest radio and radio shows so I'm biased.
