I'm sure that most of you have seen the 6 1/2's video. Well I am here to bring up ideas on how to achieve 17 dB's over sealed.

I have some ideas already:

Using aperiodic membranes to reduce impendence at lower frequencies.

Using SPL wave alignment- to make the front and back wave meet in phase at a single point.

Porting (duh)- combined with the above, will yeild outstanding results, due to the membrane it will no longer have the "can't hit below the Fs." problem.

Use odd angles- standing wave kill small cones, so try to prevent them.

If you have ideas, please add to the list, and we can create a test enclosure. [Big Grin]

I haven't seen the video, got a link?

I'd recommend a labyrinth enclosure instead of the aperiodic. The benifits are above and beyond the Ap's you utilize the full back wave of the speaker, it has no impedence rise at all and will play below the Fs.

Now, I said labyrinth aka, Quarter Wave Tube not Tapered Quarter Wave Tube. The TQWT will eliminate the back wave(bad for your aplication).

The main reason these are not used is size. To build a QWT designed for your application using a driver with a FS of 25 hertz the tube would be would be 11.3 feet long.

no. not tuned to a frequency, but tuned to your listening position.

Riiggghhhhttttt.to align the back wave with the front wave tou have to build an enclosure that will have the distance of the front of the speaker 3 times as long as the back of the speaker to create your desired, "17 DB's above sealed" at any position.
