the guy at my local audio place told me to stop my sub from bottoming out, i will need an amp with an infrasonic filter. my 1200.1 dosent have one. so is there a way to buy one external? ive never even heard of it. but i dont want a new amp. i just got mine. also the guy said a crossover wont help either. my sub is picking up all notes of music and at loud volumes, it will bottom out unexpectedly and it sounds horrible..
thanks

ok i asked the guy about the F-MOD and he said it is only good for not having a crossover in your cd player and amplifier. he said the extreme low notes will still be played with a F-MOD. i need soemthing that will block out everything under like 40hz. cause thats where distortion starts and also where my box is tuned to. will a 40hz F-MOD do this?? i kinda hate to blow 30 bucks and it not even help.
thanks

I never liked to disagree with someone, and this is the case now.
A- a loudspeaker will bottom out ONLY when the box is not right, or it is being overdriven, or the speaker's suspension is sagged over time.
An Infrasonic filter will only work in the "Infrasonic" range (hence it's name) which is below 15Hz . There is still musical information below 20Hz let alone harmonics .
Putting a filter at 40Hz will effectively increase your output, reduce some detail, and overdrive your speaker into more damage by trying to get those lost low notes.
My advice , try a more powerful amplifier, chances are you have your 1200 into a very low impedance (below 4ohms) and your amplifier lost whatever "Damping Factor" it had. Or try a different cabinet. A filter is not a good band-aid in this case . You did mention that you're tuned to 42 Hz, yet that's where the distortion starts, think about it .

well the sub never done any of this until i got the amp. so i know its not the box. i think its the amp. so if i run it a a higher ohm load (im at 2 ohms now),will it stop the bottoming out? its just weird cause it will only bottom out on the really low notes. seems like if i could get rid of those, it would be alright..

Yes, if you increase the resistance your amplifier will have more control of the speaker's motion, you will probably notice better detail, and tighter bass, despite the decrease in volume level . one more note, have someone check the "gain" control setting on the amplifier using a proper test disc .
As I mentioned, if you get rid of the really low notes, why have a sub-woofer ? Fix the problem at hand .
Also keep in mind ;
100w @ 4ohms
200w @ 2 ohms
400w @ 1 ohms
all of these are the SAME amplifier , and a speaker's resistance changes when it playes music.
