When placing speakers for perfect time alignment do you measure from the point of the cones or the lip of the cones?
Can you calculate when the drivers come back into phase (or as close as they're going to be) if one is moves closer to the listener? I realize the usefullness of this may depend on freqs played.

Time alignment of drivers is measured from the edge of the voice-coil of the driver. But since we can't get to it, the dustcap is used, and the difference is then taken into consideration.

At any point when the end of the voice coil gets power, the dustcap moves, because it is a rigid structure... Therefore, the time alignment between two coils OR two dustcaps would be the same.

some dust caps are closer to the coil than others. I would have to say that it does not matter weather you measure from the dust cap, or the coil. It would just have to be a common place for all the subs. that way there is no question on variables or technicalities. and on top of that, it would be such an minuet difference its nothing to worry about. A 1/4" out of a 15 foot wave?
