what size alternator should i use?
what size batteries and how many?
what is the current draw at 1.25 ohms?
my amp shuts off after about 5 seconds of bass, then restarts, i think it is lacking on power supply!!!! i am using 2 d300hc

You have 2 d300hc amplifiers.

At 1.25 ohms, those amps should do (giving ROUGH figure ) approximately 1800 watts per.

Therefore, you have a total of 3600 watts, and we assume the efficiency of the amps to be approximately 90% (I know that they are efficient, but I don't know how efficient exactly)

So, between the two amps, you are drawing

3600/.90 = 4000 watts.

Ouch.

Now- You use approximately 12.6v to 14.4 volts, depending on how taxed your electrical system is.

Soooooo-

278 A to 317 A is your PEAK draw. Now you won't draw this all the time, sooooo-

I'd say 180A or above should do you fine, as long as you use plenty of capacitance.


Now- It shuts off? It shuts off, plays, turns on, plays, shuts off, on, off, or it plays, shuts off, turns on and stays on?

Also- how are you getting 1.25 ohms on two mono amps..? Thats a wierd load. (Like four five ohm speakers per amp or something )

If they shut off, try turning the gains down a little. If you end up turning the gains way down and they still do it, it's probably not the power supply.

(By reducing the gain, you keep the amplifier powered and playing but you reduce the output power. You should not adjust your gains with the amp on, although many people do, it can be bad for some potentiometers or rheostats to change value with voltage applied. I wouldn't worry too much about it, but make sure you have a warranty first. If you reduce the output power, you are likewise reducing the current draw and you can find out whether or not the amp is shutting down bacause of power.)

Or you could always look at the manual and find out if the amp has under-voltage protection, and if it does, what the voltage is.

Then, take a multimeter and apply it across the B+ and Ground of one of the amps, and make sure the DC-V is over the under-voltage amount (like if the under voltage is 11.5, make sure there is 12 V) Do this under the same circumstances that the amp shuts down on.

Also- make sure your grounds are on bare metal, no paint, and that you have not chassis grounded any speakers.

You need 2 1000CCA batts per amp....
I know at .8 they draw 130amps each...
