I was told that when you run subs in an iso config. you half the vas. I was also told that by lowering the vas you can get a sugnificant gain at the tunning freq. of a vented box. is this true? also, how is an iso vented enclosure compare to in size to a normal vented enclosure? ie. 2 subs in an iso config. ,and 1 sub in a normal setup. thanks.

I've read somewhere that by isobaric loading you can effectively halve the enclosure volume (sealed) and maintain the same frequency response as would be observed using twice the volume with one of the same subs.
I am curious of the effects of isobaric loading on a ported enclosure. Can someone expand on this please?

I'd love to, but I don't know much about iso configs.. Take a look around and see if you can get a copy of Vance Dickason's Loudspeaker design cookbook, i'm pretty sure he goes over it in there.

Luck!

Let's see if I can get this one right.. Basic rules of ISO configuration. Vas the only parameter that changes much when you iso, where it is halved. This means that IF you have twice the power(total) that you had for the single speaker, output would be the same for the iso pair in a box 1/2 the size.(You gain 3 db by halving the impedence of the pair, assuming they are wired in parallel, but you lose 3 db by doubling the cone mass that has to move.) As ported boxes go, the bigger, the louder. So, if you had the 1 sub with 200 watts in a ported enclosure of a given size, and then had the 2 subs with 400 watts in the same vented box, the 2 would be louder because the box would seem twice as large to them, which should give considerably more output. Making sure the power is doubled for the pair is the key for more output, otherwise you will lose output over the single speaker. Hope that helps

thats what I was wondering. if iso configs lower the vas ,and large boxes also lower the vas, will there be any bad side effects? or will the peak freq. get louder?

I.C..I've never tried one of those before but it should just have a higher peak with no bad side effects assuming the above conditions are met....
