For a ported enclosure will half the sound energy come from the front of the speaker cone and half from the port? or is there significant loss inside the cabinent before the port?

I was always told that half the sound comes from the front of the cone, and the other half comes from the back side of the cone, not from the port itself. The port only is to tune the rear wave of the cone. That is what I was always told anyway....

just covered box design in a physics class, so of course i want to answer this one . audiophyle was correct, the box delays the rear wave long enough for it to reach the front wave in phase, the port itself is used to tune the frequency at which the rear wave will be in phase with the front wave. (more or less)_ there is a little bit more math here than implied
