Someone hip me to this. I have been reading and some ad have been stating that some many watts per voice coil. The only thing I know about wiring is that if you wire two 4 ohm subs in parrell you get 2 ohms and if you do them in series you get 8 ohms. Any help you can give me would be nice.

Are you asking how much power it will handle? If so.. You should just be able to add up the Watts/Coil and get your total power handleing. It does not matter if you wire in Series or Parallel, the power handleing is the same. If this is not what your asking just ignore the post. Posts: 42 | From: Phoenix | Registered: Sep 2001

I was noticing that some places have were rating there subs by some many watts per voice coil(being dual voice coil subs) such as 300 watts per voice coil.
I thought that dual voice coils just increased your flexibility in wiring.

Well .. yea it increases your flexability in wiring ... but they sometimes rate it that way so that you know how much wattage per coil you can send through the sub. They could have just as easily told you that the sub will take 1000 watts, and then you could do in the math in your head (knowing that there are two coils, each one can handle 500 watts each). Manufacturers usually do this with subs that have like 4 or 8 coils or whatever (like atomic thunder) ... that way you know immediatly what each coil can handle ... i dunno ... there isn't really a point in rating it that way I guess. Don't worry about it ... Posts: 70 | From: Winnipeg, MB, Canada | Registered: Apr 2000

I heard a rumor once that some esoteric speaker had 2 VC's with different impedances. I'm sure that's not the reason they labeled it as X watts per VC, probably just sounds cooler. =) Like 75HP per Cylinder or something =)
