i read an article on finding the tranfer of frequencies in my jeep. now lets get a little technican. if i do this with my current sub and box combination(hx2 ported), i am obviously going to have a big gain at the "tuned" freqency, right??? so i would be much better off using my old sealed comp vr, right??? if i do it this way i will eliminate any gain that is had by the port. i just am trying to make sense of all this..... i have done some preliminary resonant frequency testing, but it was with the ported box. next time i do this i want to make sure i get my numbers right .....Thanks

In order to get a proper map of the transfer function of your vehicle you need to map response both within the vehicle and then outside in as anechoic an environment as you can devise. It is the comparison of these two response patterns that derives the resultant transfer functon of the vehicle. Because it is a comparison the actual speaker configuration is irrelevant.
What are you hoping to achieve?

well i am debating building a box to be used only for spl comtests. i will not use this box except the day of a contest then it will come out later. i want to be sure that the box is tuned to the loudest possible "note". if any of you have any ideas feel free to contribut them....Brett

I would say that Dukk hit that one right on. What you need to do is go ahead and find a shop which will measure the frequency response of your sub in an acoustically dead environment. Then, have them make the same measurement inside your car. Now you basically jsut compare he two measurements and derive your car's frequency response. Sounds like a pain in the arse but it'll be good for what you're trying to do. Ash

well i dont have to pay for a shop to map the transfer rate of my jeep, i can do that myself. but let me see if i understand this......after mapping the frequency that shows the greatest amount of gain will be the one i want to tune to. i hope i got that right, so far i have done what is suggested in the bass mechanix download v5.0 cd. i came up with 50 being what my jeep likes(or the ported box i am running likes).....that is what i want to find out
