i have a orion NT10 that i seperated the cone from the spider, when i took it apart the coil was burnt pretty good. i went to that site www.rssoundsystems.bigste...epage.html. and thought for something to try, i would get a new coil spider and sourond.
my question is can i change it from a single vc to a dvc.
also how would i take the dust cap off it has the carbon fiber cone so i dont realy wont to heat it that much.
what is the differance between and cup spider and a flat (it has a flat). what kind of a souround would be better a foam or a buttly rubber....... and if i change the cone what would be the best cone. i think something that is light because i only have 400wrms to push it. also do u know of any other sites that sell parts with out buying by the 100's

thanks alot for all the your help
chris

Ok, sounds like you already took the cone apart from the basket, and all you have left is a burnt DVC coil and a cone.
There are places that can re-cone the speaker for you and use the original DVC coil, or similar one, same with the spyder. It's best to use the same materials that the manufacturer used because that's how the entire speaker was designed. Changing to a single coil will change the weight of the coil and the response charecteristics of it.
Changing the cone will change everything in that driver, cheaper to buy a new speaker and more effective. Pressed pulp paper cones are best because they're lighter and pretty rigid.
As for the spyder one type is not BETTER but different, each design has a purpose.
The best material for a surround seems to be the "foam" type, because it retains it's shape better then "rubber" type, and lasts longer. Once the elements get to the rubber it drops it's shape rapidly, leaving you with a sagging suspension.
You can try the place I work at www.speakercity.ca look under Services to get an idea of what's involved in re-coning.
Not recomended for the in-experienced.
Should you decide to ship the unit for us I'll ensure it'll get proper attention.
I don't recommend buying re-cone kits on the net, you'll find they're not all the same, and some sizes may not fit your basket or cone properly.

I would guess shipping via Loomis will cost you approx. $30
I will enquire with my service tech. about more specific prices.
He also makes his own sub and it's one bad a$$ sub.
