I am worried I will have too much extension (a.k.a. "one-note bass") if I go with a 40Hz tuning frequency and 6.0 cu.ft. per DD 9512 (1500W each).
I want to keep the tuning freq. at 40Hz since this is going to be a daily driver system--I don't need any peaks and want as smooth a response as possible.
In my opinion, the box size is going to give me near one-note bass (daily drivers HATE that). If I go with an 8 cu.ft. box, with 4 cu.ft. per sub, will that keep me from having the dreaded one-note bass?? Thanks.

If you want a flatter response, I would go with a different sub. the bigger the box the more one note you will get. The lower you tune the less one note you will get. You cant tune a DD too low cuz the Fs is kinda high.
I have two 9512's tuned at 45. my car has a natural resonance at 63 then my box peaks at 45. the end reslult for me is a response from 40 to 70hz with +/- 1.5db. thats pretty flat for a car.
