I everyone, i found a website with many car audio amplifier, like switching power supply and amplifier section shematic !!

Many advice can be found to build your owncar audio amplifier!

(toroidal transformer formula, what capacitor, transistor, or inductance you need... )

Also a monstruous 2500W RMS mono amplifier specially designed for SPL competition(20 pair of transistor for the SWICH PS.!!

Very interresting!

Cool man, this is just what I have been looking for. I am trying to get a special topics course in the next two semesters on an amp design...I was going to do a guitar amp but it would be cool building a huge class D or something...
Thanks
Ash

A pretty good site, especially for the PS section. It is hard to find good info on DC-DC power supplies.

But a couple things said on the site make me wonder a little.

"Sonic quality is an important thing for measuring the quality of an audio power amplifier. Generally you can determine it by looking at the THD and S/N ratio. The color of the sound is not related to those figures. It is very common that the color of sound determines one's judgement, not the THD and S/N ratios. This is proved by so many people loves the sound of warm tube amplifier, eventhoughthe THD and S/N ratios are low."
Unless the THD and S/N are way out of whack I don't think it says that much abou thte quality of an amp.

"Generally, the efficiency of an car audio power amplifier is about 50%-80%. You must conditionize your car electric supply if you want to install high power audio system. For total power above 200W it is recomended that you install extra car battery or replace the car battery with high current dry car battery. For total power above 1000W, you must replace the alternator with the higher performace one. If your car electric system cannot supply the amount of energy for your audio system, the power amplifiers will be damaged."
I don't think you need an upgraded battery for 200w. And if your amp is going to be damaged by low voltage I think there is a problem in the design

Does anybody know where ther is good info on dc to dc converters. Basically, the type you would use for a car audio amp. Im thinking maybe a toroid mfg might have good app notes.

It looks like they removed the power supply info on the link above

Dank,

I really haven't found too many good resources on the net for DC-DC converters big enough for car amps. Generally they are for smaller circuits or not the right topology.
Some transformer manufacturers have OK infomation, mainly on choosing or designing a transformer. The place where I think you can learn the most is by getting datasheets for PWM ICs and Power FETs, TI, national, IR, IXYS... all have good information and app notes.
I have a large collection of datasheets for this stuff on my home computer. If you want it I can send it to you.

Another crazy man with a 20KW amp project!!

Just click on each link inside the site to see all the different shematic part

I think that it have a variable powersupply rail to haven't problem with exessive thermal dissipation at low power(under 1000W..)
