I got an email from tech-support at rockford .com and they said that the 1100a2 draws 40 to 80 amps while playing, and 80 to 130 amps when clipped. What do they mean by clipped? how do you know when an amp is clipping? They also said in a direct short-scenario the amplifier will draw as much as 200 amps, what does that mean? Another ?, would a 1100a2 be too much for a Power DVC 15 to handle?

Clipping occurs when the signal is over driven. If seen on an oscilliscope, the top of the wave is flat, thus looking like it is clipped off, hence the term clipping. Essentially, you are sending DC straight to the next component in the chain. If your head unit is clipping, everything after it clips (sounding distorted). If the amp is driven so hard that the waveform coming out is just a flat line, there is a dead short across the amplifier's power supply and it will draw as much as the vehicles electrical system (and the wiring to the amp) will handle. It's hard for me to explain without getting overly technical (or digging out college textbooks). I know what it is, what it sounds like and what it looks like on a scope. Perhaps someone who payed more attention in class can help more.
