how do u know if a speaker is bad?
i sold my cuzn a sub and he used it for two weeks with no problems
and then a few days ago
he started blowing fuses, the main fuse off the battery and the fuse on his deck
so he took it back to the shop he had install
his amp and the sub and deck
they told him the speaker was bad
and that was the reason why he was blowning fuses
so he called me up today saying when the shop testing the sub, it blow all the fuses on his truck
could that happen?
when ever i saw my cuzn bumping it
he was always over driving the sub
and it was distorning and didn't sound to good
ne ways now my cuzn is trying to say i sold him a bad sub in the 1st place and doesn't want to pay me the 40 bucks he still owns me on it

i know the sub and amp was good when i sold it too him
because i took the amp right out of my truck working with no problems
and the sub i also took out of my truck with no problems

wut the heck?
ive never seen a sub go bad and blow all the fuses on a truck be4
wut can i tell my cuzn
to let him know that i didn't sell him bad gear
and that he was the one that messed it up?
ne tech info about wut happens to a sub
when it is over driven?
or shorts out or wutever

peace Joakwin

sounds more like an amp problem than a sub problem to me. i've never heard of a sub shorting out. when a sub "blows", the voice coil will open(split, blow apart, sheer, etc), causing LOTS of resistance. a short is the exact opposite.. if the sub were to short (not likely) then the amp would be the first to fry. if a sub shorts then the resistance(impedance) will drop dramatically causing the amp to fry.
so anyway, sounds like an amp problem. that or check ALL of the wiring. start at the front by the battery and work your way back. if there is ANY exposed wire that could be causing a short.

shorts are pretty common in electronics. For speakers, they're much rarer but not exempt. I've seen shorted tinsel wires, but have yet to see a shorted vc. It is possible but very damn unlikely. More likely, the wiring somewhere has gone bad.
