hi, i've got a Cerwin Vega Stroker 15" and i'm going to build a 4,69 ft^3 box tuned to 35 Hz for it. For the port i'm going to use a 6" aeroport... now my problem is that the aeroport uses so much space (mounting diameter) so that it can't be on the same side as the woofer. My car is a Citroen Visa (hatchback)... I have to mount the stroker backwards and the aeroport up, i have read that a sub plays best with both driver and port backwards, and that i can get out of phase problems if they aren't placed on the same side... Is that really a big problem? Does anybody know or has anybody had a system like this?

I have built subs with the port on the side adjacent to the baffle. It's recommended to place the port as close to the woofer as possible, you want them to radiate as asingle source. You can do it without too many ill effects, but if you can squeeze that port on the woofer side, do it.

Hi emu. Thats for an open air scenario. Inside a car, and SPL specifically, the best positioning is usually somewhat different... (have you seen dB Don's graphs?)

Which one's the Visa, the small one the medium one or the large one?
I own a Saxo, click on the link to go to my homepage and see if it's the same as yours, if so I may be able to offer advice.
Generally though port on the drivers side, and if you have the room face it backwards. If you really have a lot of room there's a much better design, but that won't be widely known until after finals, so I can't tell you.
Also, the bigger the port the better, and you can have a 90degree bend in it if needs be.

If you are going to be using the PNR's from lightening audio, I hope you have already found tubing to go between the port flanges, cause they don't make it. I searched for 2 weeks before I found something that would work without modification, and it was not cheap. It's a clear lexan tube, and if you need to get some let me know, I'll help you out, except it's a 55 dollar minimum order for the stuff, which gets you 4 15.5" long tubes, but being lexan it's clear and looks really kick ass with vb block in your box and a good neon.
