what is the deal about half wave and quarter
wave, how can this effect, if the car is sealed up?

Dude, it is almost impossible to get 1/2 wave in a car... so forget it...
1/4 wave maybe... This is the spot where energy is extremely great for SPL boost...
Get a book and read further...
