Hi all, I was just wondering if someone could give me a general formula for determining port tuning freauency from the port area and depth. Any help is greatly appreciated!

go to www.jlaudio.com and go to their tutorials and click on the one about ports. hope you're not scared of exponents and sq. roots

it's actually pretty simple...and if you have a graphing calculator it's even easier

it'll change with different T/S parameters.... but I don't know any formulas. I downloaded BoxPlot and it does all the calculating for me, it's great

OK I feel pretty retarded now. Right after I posted that question I realized that my old electroacoustics class notes are sitting like 5 ft. behind me...it's all in there, but thanks for the replies anyway!

Well, there's actually quite a lot in the notes. The beginning of the notes deals mainly with wave representation, along with a little bit of fluid dynamics. Next is a section on spherical waves and a few boundary conditions. Also, there are sections dealing with ported and sealed enclosures, horns and other waveguides, and room acoustics. Oh yeah, there's a good section on crossovers as well. Lots of math...

Sorry I thought I would correct one little thing in this post...

Your box tuning will remain static, it's unaffected by the driver. Box 'A' tuned to 40 Hz will always be tuned to 40 Hz regardless of what speaker is placed in it. What changes is the response characteristics of the driver.
