Anyone out there done any real world comparisons between running 2 8 volt batteries in series to get 16v, and 16 volt batteries.
I'm comparing 2 8v golf cart batteries from interstate and the turbostart 16v batteries. I've heard mixed opinions on both, just looking for someone that has hands on experience with them. Hate to order 10 $130 batteries and they not work like I need.

The only real noticeable difference I would imagine is that putting them in series will put the battery's internal resistances in series as well... Won't it?

Another difference is the available current draw. Generally with two batteries in series, you of course have a larger capacity that one single battery. That is why tractors and/or industial equipment use huge 6volt batteries in series, they still work on a 12volt system but they need the extra crankin power to turn over those diesel engines.

I personally think it would be of benefit to have two 8 volt batteries wired in series during your "run" so that you have 16 volts ... then while your car is running, you can flip a switch so it wires all the bateries in parallel so that your alternator can charge them ... maybe that would be a bad thing though?

well the only thing i could see would be maybe a cranking amps differance..i would think it would be higher if you ran 2 8v..but then on the flip side wouldnt that also make it more resistant..so im not sure

His statement is correct as well as incorrect.
With series, the current is increased proportional to the voltage increase, as the load will remain constant in these kind of cases. Therefore, voltage AND current will increase.
With parralel, there is no increase in inducing quantities, only an increase in availability of induce-ABLE quantities. That is, when you parralel the batteries, you CAN draw more current. However, to do so you must either lower resistance or raise voltage. Parraleling batteries is generally wasteful unless you need an increase in off-battery playing time.
So, to recap-
Series = voltage AND current increase Parralel = availible extra current

there's a current increase from adding cells in series....hmmm... time to do some more research.
