Can someone explain the 15 degree phase shift in series wiring? I keep hearing about it. Here are my Q's:

What determines the degree of phase change?
Does this relate to the phase shifts which are a result of using passive crossovers?

How would you determine the phase shifts in a system using multiple drivers in series, or a mixture of series and parallel?

A 15 degree phase shift dependent on how you hook it up to the subs?

Yes ,there is a phase shift. What it is depends on the speaker characteristics. If you only use two speakers it want matter because the 1st speaker causes a phase shift in thr 2nd speaker and the 2nd speaker causes one in the first speaker. With matching speakers and enclosers these should be the same. Therefore, all your phase will be in phase. It might not be in phase with the mids and highs but it was most like off in the first place since it was running through different amps and crossover both passive and electronic. Don't worry unless you run a strict SQ systems and then you most likely have a phase shifter anyway.

Oldtimer, any links to articles about this phenomenon? Yes, I came across this in a SQ context. Perhaps I will post the question there.

From your post it seems that there is a relation ship between the enclosure and the driver which interacts with other enclosures/drivers wired in series, resulting in a phase shift based on the differences in the combinations.

Are you suggesting that for a channel with multiple drivers of various specs, that a phase shifting device would be placed between the drivers wired in series?

Thanks for your post.
