I have been searching for a handheld variable tone generator. the last on i saw was made by rockford fosgate back in 93. It is about 1x5x8 and has 1 set of rca outputs. It has 2 knobs one for volume and the other for setting the frequency. It has a digital display showing the tone frequency. It ran off 1 9 volt battery

you and I are in the same boat. I had one of those Signal generators but it was stolen with a whole lot of other stuff in 1995. If you come up on a source for these let me know, or even if it is just a similar type unit.

The B+K 3001 is a hand-held, 20hz - 150hz signal generator. Sound applicable? If so, its about 75$ from Starkelectronic.com but I would imagine you can get it just about anywhere.

There's also a company called Rolls-something or other(pro audio/studio company) that you can get through AMS or Musician's Friend for $30-$50 that does 20-20k in sine waves or square waves. It only has 1/4" jacks, but it's very easy to use. I have had one for a few years, but it's location is a mystery(somewhere in my piles of equipment), so I can't tell you the exact company name. But you can still get them from AMS, Musician's Friend, or Interstate Music Supply. Check their sites in the cable section, and you should be able to find them. Or, go with the B&K like 'star suggested(which is probably better, anyway, but it's your cash). Hope this helps more than it hinders.

If you have a cd burner then do what I did, download Goldwave. You can use it to create wave files of any frequency, then burn them to a cd.
If anyone is willing to donate the webspace I can upload some sine waves. I have 5 second wav's starting at 1hz up to 70hz in 1hz intervals, as well as 10 second wav's of each freq from a 30 band eq.
