Looking for an oscope or two. Need some recommendations. I figure since all they are going to be doing is reading the output from amplifiers most any setup will work. More than anything its just to get a visual output of the signal anyway. What I am looking for are possibly some model recommendations or at least a recommendation on where to find what I need. I have seen some 20mhz B&K's on ebay for cheap but they are huge. Would like to get something that is as small as possible. Thanks.

Velleman sells a little scope kit for about 200 dollars that wuld work for setting gains, I wouldn't do any other audio work with it, but it will represent the waveform graphically for you. Full sized scopes can be had cheaper and they are typically better performers, but for just audio work you don't need anything more than a very basic scope. If you have an extra thousand dollars you could get a fluke handheld scope. Another possibility if you have a laptop is to try to find some scope software and use that.

thought about the pc based stuff. can that stuff be considered accurate at all? specially when your using the sound card in a laptop?

Personally I wouldn't use either the handheld kit or the PC based stuff for most of the work I do with a scope. When it comes to setting gains and other things in car stereo that you can use a scope for, the PC based stuff and the handhelds are sufficient. As long as you don't overload the input of the soundcard it shouldn't effect the precision too much. What exactly are you looking to do with it? Knowing exactly what you want to do will help me recommend something

That seems to be exactly what I need. Mainly I plan on using this for setting gains and watching the signal during burps.

Dual trace would mean you could watch two seperate inputs at the same time, correct?

Transportation Electronics in St Luis Park? I agree, have been there once. Don't plan on going back again.

I am not sure of the exact function of an osciliscope, but there is a PC based data logger that inputs through the serial ports, not the sound card. It has four analog inputs and digital in/out. http://www.dataq.com/cgi-local/SoftCart.exe/115.htm?E+scstore
It may not be exactly what you're looking for, but it is a neat toy for $15.00. I use it to monitor my car's sensors for tuning...

That card is neat, but its input sens says +/-10v. I need something that is safe upto 100v or so at least.
