Maybe it's just me finally really taking notice, but I just realized that both the IDmax and the W7 both have the cone seperated from the spider. Basically, I'm just wondering what the "flange" like thingy that connects the former (or is it now something else?) to the cone is called (most easily recoginzable on the Idmax). Any benifts to this design(or do we have to wait and see, lol?)? I just thought it was kinda interseing.

To my understanding it allows for alot more excursion without the cone smacking the spider. The flange is used to reinforce that part of the cone conection and give it a solid low resonace. Normally a speaker has a ringing that travels down the cone and takes away eff. when it hits. This solid foundation in theory would help increase efficiency providing the added weight was taken off elsewhere. Most of all, it has the cool factor. Maybe the guys from these companies could share a little info.

You can go to JL's website, hit the pick of the w7, and spin it around to it's side, or, for a real photo, you just need to find the site with one of the CES pics (I can't remember the url for the life of me). Or, if you have any old mags, look for a pick of any infinity perfect (noticed it the other day), but it dosen't look near as neat, lol.
