The other day me and my buddy installed my new deck and took out the factory. When we took that out we noticed that there was 4 wires for the fron speakers and 4 wires for the back. Then we seen 5 more wires and typically there is your grouund, remote, acc, and starter wires well there was an extra one. We couldnt figure out what wire was what so we tied them t together and taped them away. We made our own ground and then ust tapped into the fuse box. The deck runs great and everything in my system is good but ther problem is..... Now my dash where the speedometer is doenst light up anymore. Well it lights up when the headlights are off, but when you turn the headlights on the dash is suppsed to light up. Well it doesnt the lights just go off. Any suggestion on how I can fix this would be great.

take the HU out. keep the speaker wires wired, and then wire up ONLY the red, yellow, and your ground.. tape off the ends of all the other wires and leave them to the side (uhhook them if they're hooked up).. 1. with NOTHING on (car radio etc) start playin w/ lights buttons etc.. (should all work like normal) 2. turn the HU on, see if it works (it should) 3. play with all the lights buttons etc in your car. (should work) 4. turn the car on and keep the HU off. play with buttons lights etc. (should work still) 5. finally, turn the HU on w/ the car on and check that stuff.
technically you only need 3wires to make it all work. see if that helps. exactly how my car is wired.. (only red, yellow, ground(custom ground), and speakers) everything works just fine now.
try it out and see

You driving an older Dodge?? The factory wires you didn't use had Batt, Ign, Gnd, Illumination (to light up the original radio) and very possibly Illumination Return that runs from the deck to the dash lights - no I don't know why they did it that way but they did.
Use a multimeter and find the wire that goes hot when the park lights are turned on (should go dead or show ground when park lights are off). Mark this one. May as well mark the Batt, Ign, and Gnd wires too, leaving the one wire unmarked. Plug the factory deck back in to the 5 wires and see if that last wire goes hot when the parks are turned on. If so then it is most likely a dash illumination wire and you can tie the illumination 'in' wire to the illumination 'out' wire and you should be set.
