Same as a solid box with no leaks will hit better numbers. Colin

What you are going for is Sound PRESSURE Level. If the cabin flexes less, less pressure is lost. If the cabin has no leaks, no pressure is lost through them.

Good point, SS, I kind of overlooked that. In my earlier comments I was talking about a vehicle where the subs are at the max, so any leaks could cause failure to them. Gummi, it sounds like you are in the category of underpowered. When you open the doors, the subs have less pressure on the front, and can therefor mover farther and increase displacement, increasing SPL.
Question for Shadow Star, would the doors being open also increase SPL because of more air movement by doors? Understand what I mean? Since the air could move in and out of the vehicle vs. being compressed and rarefied, would that increase SPL because of increased velocity? Am I leaving something out, or just don't make sense at all?

Take a balloon, and blow it up 1 breath. How hard is it to blow up? Now, blow it up halfway. Now blow in 1 more breath. Which one was harder? The first breath, or the last?
When you open the doors, you change the compliance in front of the drivers.. Basically they can move easier, therefore displacing more air. I think if you actually look at the drivers, they'll be moving more.
This allows for greater displacement AND greater velocity.

Compliance of air in the cabin is one very important factor.
ShadowStar
yes its important, But I think it becomes less important when you have speakers that can more than do the extra work required to hit high SPL. My system is louder at the dash with the windows up, but it feels like it hits harder with them down. Funny thing is, It feels like it hits deeper with the windows down but according to my measurements it doesnt. I do have to add that Im still doing my experimenting with the good ole radio shack piece-o-$hit. so my measurements are only up to 120. thats as far as I trust it.
