Building a basic amp is pretty simple, but building something along the quality of most car audio brands is something else entirely, and very complicated to boot.
There are kits around for small amplifiers, as well as many MANY books.. I would suggest you buy a book on solid state devices and circuits and know it well before attempting to design a real hot amplifier, but if you get any book off say amazon.com or something about amplifier design it'll probably have schematic projects included.
