i have on 8ohm sub that can handle 600 watts, i have 2 4ohm subs that can handle 300 watts a piece.
If i wire the subs so that i get 2 8ohm loads then wire those to get a 4ohm load will the 1200 watts that i need be sent evenly to the 3 subs(400, 400, 400) or will it be as it would be needed (600, 300, 300) if so shot me a line cause im not sure???
thanks jesse

ok... 1200watts/3 is 400 400 400, true, BUT, one sub is 8ohm, and the other are 4ohm. so you gotta take that into effect. the 4ohm subs will get 2x as much power than the 8ohm sub. SO
2x + 2x + x = 1200 5x = 1200 x = 240 <-now plug that back in 2(240) = 2(240) + 240 = 1200 480 + 480 + 240 = 1200
so the 4ohm subs will get 480watts and the 8ohm sub will get 240watts.. sucks that its backwards from what you need.

series both 4 ohm speakers rated at 300 watts each together. This will make the equivelent of one 8 ohm 600 watt speaker.
Parallel these series connected speakers to the 8 ohm 600 watt speaker. That will make a combined load of 4 ohms. And a total rated wattage of 1200 watts. With each speaker able to get it's max power.

Huh? That was some crazy algebra application to a simple concept. I believe your second power distribution was accurate. The 8 Ohm sub would receive 600 Watts and each of the 4 Ohm subs would receive 300 Watts each. Now, I am assuming that you do have an amplifier that will deliver 1200 Watts into a mono 4 Ohm load. Here is something else to think about: the 8 Ohm speaker will be working twice as hard as the other two. Now, I think of speakers as a team in a tug-o-war. If they are not equal in strenght and If they are not working in conjunction, someone's arms are going to get torn off!!! So, electrically you might have the proper load, but I foresee some physical problems with your idea. Three of the same woofers will probably render better results and will not "fight" each other.

wow.. i didn't look my stuff over properly. i think what i did was for parallel wiring which wouldn't work. but like the others said, if you series the 4ohm subs, and that in parallel with the 8ohm sub, they will all get correct power. 4ohm subs get 300watts and 8ohm sub gets 600. sorry bout the confusion i caused. =) next time i'll read into it more. but the parallel thing i did was right, if anyone has the same thing, but backwards... or something lol nevermind

only problem would be the phase shift in the two 4 ohm subs in series. when you wire subs in series you have a loss in power across the first sub which sends a completly different signal to the second sub in the series, which will cause cancelation, which suks, it won't make a huge difference, like if they were 180 deg. out of phase, but it will make a cut in your spl.
